France’s Macron to visit Russia and Ukraine next week on mediation trip amid tensions

An estimated 100,000 Russian troops near Ukraine has fueled Western fears of an invasion, but Moscow has denied having plans to launch an attack while demanding security guarantees from the the U.S. and its allies.

While France is a major player in NATO, President Macron has also been actively pushing for dialogue with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The two are set to meet Monday one-on-one.
